Tell us bit about yourself (family, job, sports, military interest etc..)… I am originally from Chicago, but went to school in Montana where I fell in love with the West. It took me a little while to wind up in Denver, but finally the opportunity arose and I moved out here in 2001 (and I am never leaving). I have a wonderful husband, Jim, and we live in Sedalia with our 4 cats. I am also very lucky to have my 3 siblings live in Colorado and Wyoming, so we all spend a lot of time together hiking, mountain biking and just enjoying each other.
I am a regional sales manager and travel once in a while, but try to limit the travel to a few times a month.
I feel blessed to have a wonderful family and live in a beautiful part of the world. We spend a lot of our free time outside and working out because we also love Colorado brew pubs.
What were you doing before CrossFit..Same routine for years! I would lift and run/bike but my body was used to the same old workout day after day.
What were your thoughts after your first CrossFit workout…I loved it, and I was truly humbled! But each day I came back, it became a little easier. In the past I never participated in classes, but my brother in law convinced me to give Crossfit a shot and I never looked back. Spencer was so welcoming and encouraging and it helped that the Crossfit community at CFCR are just great people. I became hooked pretty quickly
What were your goals when joining CrossFit...I started to get injured more often as I got older, specifically when lifting. I discovered my core was pretty weak in spite of consistently working out. I wanted to strengthen my core but also increase my strength and endurance. I also enjoy challenges and Crossfit certainly fits the bill. My next goal is to convince my husband to start Crossfit (still working on this one)
Have you achieved any of those goals…Absolutely with the exception of coercing my husband to join
Has CrossFit affected your life outside the gym….I had a stroke in March of 2013, which caused me to put Crossfit on the backburner for a year and half. However after the stroke, the doctors told me my rehab progressed the way it did because I went into the stroke strong. Although I didn’t know it at the time, the strength I built through Crossfit prior to my stroke was invaluable.
Any advice for people getting started…I know you all have heard this before, but everyone has had a first day in Crossfit. Don’t get discouraged! Crossfit will connect you with great people that will share your pain, drive and success and will make you stronger and more confident.
Some of your recent accomplishments…Finally an RX pullup! WooHoo!
What makes CFCR special to you…It is definitely the people. The coaches are incredibly encouraging and supportive. I feel like I am part of a community where we all have a shared goal, push each other and support each other. I really look forward to starting my day with so many people that I enjoy and connect with.
