Tell us bit about yourself (family, job, sports, military interest etc..)…
We started dating in high school and have been married for 24 years. We have two daughters, Jenna is 19 and attending CSU and Cassidy is 16. Jeff is a General Contractor and Michele works for a software company and does the interior design for Jeff’s houses. We are both Colorado natives, but we are really into summer activities. We love camping and boating and all kinds of water sports like wakeboarding, slalom skiing, and surfing. We go to Lake Powell every year and keep a boat at Pueblo Reservoir.
What were you doing before CrossFit..
Michele – Less and less as the years went by until it was pretty much nothing.
Jeff- A little mountain biking, some time on the elliptical, nothing very consistent. I always thought my job was enough physical exercise and didn’t want to “tire myself out” by working out in the morning. Now I have more energy throughout the day.
What were your thoughts after your first CrossFit workout…
Michele – “Well, this is definitely NOT for me.” The next morning I got up and went anyway. The addiction kicked in right away! I really thought the coaches would tell me to spend some time getting in shape first and then come back, but the coaches were really supportive and made me feel like I was in the right place. Thanks Spencer, Brenda and Jewels!
Jeff – It was more fun than I expected. I had never gone to a fitness class before and it was nice to have the structure to keep me going.
What were your goals when joining CrossFit…
Michele – Be able to climb the ropes to the entrance of my favorite hike at Lake Powell. Two weeks before I started CrossFit I wasn’t able to get up the ropes and had to sit in the boat and wait while my friends and family went hiking without me. Definitely a life changing moment!
Jeff – Try to hold back the march of time and be able to keep doing the watersports and other outdoor activities. Basically to keep up with people much younger than I am!
Have you achieved any of those goals…
Michele – Yes! The next year I was able to kick butt on that hike and it felt great!
Jeff – Yes, I feel like I’m in better shape than I can ever remember.
Has CrossFit affected your life outside the gym….
Michele – Yes, in so many ways. I’m finally happy with my body and I’m no longer obsessed with the number on the scale and I don’t even own a scale anymore. I have a lot more confidence to try new things and I’m not afraid to lift heavy stuff! We’ve made lots of really great friends.
Jeff – More energy and more confidence to do physical things both in sports and at work.
Any advice for people getting started…
Michele – Stick with it, you won’t regret it!
Jeff – It is only as hard as you make it, but you will get out as much as you put in.
Some of your recent accomplishments…
Michele – Beating Jeff in 100 situps for time.
Jeff – Completing the Open with all RX scores, consistent double unders
