Crossfit – March 2017 – Jared & Aimee Oldenburg

CFCR COUPLE OF THE MONTH

Name…  Jared & Aimee Oldenburg

When did you start CrossFitting… For me (Jared), this is a longish history. I saw some guys doing a WOD at our local gym just outside of Seattle maybe 10 years ago.  We didn’t have a local box (or the money at the time) so slowly I just made do in our garage or gym…made my own rings, craigslist, etc. Nothing too serious though.

A couple of years ago we followed Michael Rutherford’s MEBB for about a year together and really enjoyed it, but when they stopped posting the workouts, that fell by the wayside… This fall we realized how much we missed working out together (Aimee was doing Fitzone/Orange Theory type stuff, Jared was in the basement) so we joined a CrossFit Box for the first time.

Favorite wod… Anything with running (Aimee). Any workout that I can maintain a steady pace and not blow up. (Jared)

Least favorite wod… somehow there is a new one every morning (Jared). Any WOD with > 75 burpees (Aimee).

Favorite lift… Front squat…not because I actually like doing them, but because any gains in the front squat translate to other lifts (Jared). Cleans (Aimee).

Least favorite lift… Heavy shoulders…mostly because mine are so weak (Jared). Snatch or overhead squats (Aimee)

Tell us bit about yourself (family, job, sports, military interest etc..)… We met and started dating in Wisconsin when we were 14 & 15 years old…so we have been together since 1991!  We have three kids Isabella (16), Paytra (14) & Owen (9).  We moved to Castle Rock, from Maple Valley, Washington in 2010

Aimee supervises at the Castle Pines library, loves to run, the beach, family outings, and reading.

Jared is a pastor at Eternal Rock Lutheran Church (meets at Castle Rock Middle School). Played Division III tennis and football (think more glorified high school rather than bigtime football).  I still regularly ski, play basketball and mountain bike on the local trails.

What were you doing before CrossFit.. see above

What were your thoughts after your first CrossFit workout… I had a long way to go, a lot to learn, seemed exciting (Aimee).  What the crap! (Jared)

What were your goals when joining CrossFit… Gain strength, get fitter, learn new skills, CrossFit lady legs (Aimee).  Crossfit lady legs, limit the post 40-year old decline, push limits, start the day together as a couple (Jared)

Have you achieved any of those goals…  still working on my legs (Jared)  Yes, made some gains (front squat) and got some double unders (Aimee)

Has CrossFit affected your life outside the gym…. Figured out what it means to push past threshold (Aimee) Met new friends, feel like our day is on track because we are able to workout together early in the day (Jared)

Any advice for people getting started… Each day is a new WOD (Aimee). Keep working at it, sometimes gains don’t seem to happen, then you make a big jump overnight (Jared)

Some of your recent accomplishments… double unders (Aimee), Almost got a handstand kipping pushup, getting closer on butterfly pullups (Jared).

What makes CFCR special to you? I enjoy the people, the competition and encouragement/advice of the coaches (Jared) comradery, and the authenticity of the people and the coaches (Aimee)
