CFCR MEMBER & ATHLETE ron ron2 ron3

Hi my name is Ron Davenport.  I’m 51 years old and I began my crossfit journey in January 2014.

I need to go back to August 2013. I noticed that my pants didn’t and my clothes in general were no fitting well.  I got on the scale and I weighed 185 lbs.  I have never been that heavy ever.  I was fat dumb and happy or so I thought. I had several significant health issues I was dealing with. I ate too much crap, I drank too much alcohol and I had reconstructive surgery on my right elbow. I was a mess.
Several coworkers do crossfit.  I watched what they did and it seems too hard to do for me.  I quit drinking, cleaned up my diet by eating paleo started moving and by January I had lost 25 lbs.  Now crossfit seemed possible. I saw the ad for a free introductory on ramp class at The Gym/ Crossfit Castle Rock.  I was intimidated by the class.  Fortunately the instructor (Kirk) was awesome and understood my feeling intimidated.
With great instruction I was able to get through the beginning experience of crossfit.  It was hard and kicked my ass. Slowly and surely, I got stronger and began to see results.  I decided I needed a goal.

I decided to try to be in the Colorado Springs Professional Firefighters Calendar. With great encouragement and coaching I was selected for the calendar!  I owe that to all of you for pushing me to meet my goal.
I also competed in a firefighter crossfit competition in Dallas in August. Then I competed in the Battle at the Rock. It has been a great learning and training experience.
My number 1 goal is to set an example and encourage all firefighters to maintain a higher fitness level throughout their career and retire healthy.

My goal is to become a crossfit trainer and continue to learn, encourage and try to be the example of what is possible as you get out of your own way and push forward.

Thank you everyone for pushing me to achieve.  No excuses just do the work.
