I like anything with deadlifts and chipper style wods.

<span style=”color: rgb(255, 0, 0);”>Least favorite wod: Almost anything else. Just kidding. I hate Karen. Incidentally, this was my first WOD I actually remember doing when I first started.

<strong style=”color: rgb(255, 0, 0);”>Favorite lift: Deadlift and Push Jerk

<span style=”color: rgb(255, 0, 0);”>Least favorite lift: Snatch—I’m getting better at it thanks to Taylor but I still struggle with it, so it’s my least favorite. Oh, and let’s not forget the Overhead Squat and all of the gymnastic movements that elude me.

<strong style=”color: rgb(255, 0, 0);”>Tell us bit about yourself (family, job, sports, military interest etc..) I have been married to the love of my life, (gross right? But it’s true.) Ryan, for 13 years. We have four very busy and wonderful sons: Evan, 11; Colin, 9; Aaron, 7; and Quentin, 4. They are my full time job. When I’m not at the gym, I’m usually trucking them around to their various activities. They play soccer year round so I can usually be found at one field or another throughout the Denver/Colorado Springs area on any given Saturday. They have also participated in the Kids Crossfit programs and love it. If you ever see Evan, ask him to do a pistol. It’s ridiculous how much better at this sport he is than I am! I also love to refinish old furniture although I’m a procrastinator at heart so I usually have several unfinished projects.

<strong style=”color: rgb(255, 0, 0);”>What were you doing before CrossFit: Running. I come from a family of runners. My dad is a marathoner and ultra marathoner so, it’s what I knew. I have run three full marathons, about 10 half marathons and countless 5K’s. In 2011 Ryan and I started looking for something we could do together because he hates running, but we love being active together. We decided to check out Crossfit Castle Rock and the rest is history.

<span style=”color: rgb(255, 0, 0);”>What were your thoughts after your first Crossfit workout: Ho. Ly. Crap. At least I didn’t throw up.

<strong style=”color: rgb(255, 0, 0);”>What were your goals when joining Crossfit: At the time, I wanted to lose weight. (Hey, I’m right there again!) But as I got into it I started wanting to have more upper body strength and more core strength. After giving birth– 4 c-sections in 7 years– getting my lower abs to even acknowledge that I’m trying to use them and strengthen them is a daily struggle.

<span style=”color: rgb(255, 0, 0);”>Have you achieved any of those goals: I’ve lost weight only to regain it and I’m on the downsizing slope again. It will likely be a lifelong battle so I’m trying to shift my focus to what my body can do, rather than what it looks like and at the same time focus on nutrition. In terms of strength, I’m much stronger. And I no longer suffer from sciatica because my core is stronger.

<strong style=”color: rgb(255, 0, 0);”>Has Crossfit affected your life outside the gym: Most definitely. Last summer I was doing a service project with several local moms and their kids. We were trying to show our kids how to be active in our community. We were cleaning up a part of a local park where rains had moved rocks onto a trail making it hard for walkers and bikers to pass. Our kids had LOADED wheelbarrows full of small boulders and dirt and none of the moms could lift the wheelbarrow and maneuver it to the dumping point—except me. I did that about 4 times. (Hello, deadlift.) Strong is beautiful!

<strong style=”color: rgb(255, 0, 0);”>Any advice for people getting started: Do not stop. Yes, you will be sore for days on end at first and maybe always, but the best way to get past that soreness is to go in stretch out and WOD again. Don’t be discouraged and don’t give up. And take nutrition seriously. It makes all the difference.

<span style=”color: rgb(255, 0, 0);”>Some of your recent accomplishment: Deadlift PR: 215#, Clean and Jerk PR: 90#, Committing the Whole 30 (10 days in and feeling great)
<strong style=”color: rgb(255, 0, 0);”>Smile!
