Tell us bit about yourself (family, job, sports, military interest etc..)… We moved to Colorado a little over a year ago and recently got married after being together for 7 years. Coltt is a Deputy for Douglas County and Sarah is a dental assistant. We both love sports, hiking, and spending time with family and friends.
What were you doing before CrossFit.. Previously we were both college athletes, but it was nothing like crossfit! Coltt played football and Sarah played softball. Until we moved here we knew nothing about crossfit.
What were your thoughts after your first CrossFit workout… Coltt: I really enjoyed my first wod though it involved a high count of thrusters. I was hooked from the get go. Sarah: I was very hesitant to try crossfit as I had a routine of running and doing a little bit of lifting. I had planned on only using the gym side, but Taylor had talked me into trying it when I first visited the gym. After the first wod I was hooked! It was nice to find something that gave me the same enjoyment (now so much more) that softball gave me for years.
What were your goals when joining CrossFit… Coltt: I never reallly had goals to begin with. It was spur of the moment to try Crossfit. Since then I have been trying to learn new movements and improve techniques. It is also a nice side effect having positive changes in my body and living healthier. Sarah: Initally I just wanted to get in better shape and build more confidence. Since then I have set many goals from getting faster, stronger, and to get more technical. Long term goal I would love to be able to make it to regionals or (long shot) games.
Have you achieved any of those goals… Coltt: I have been learning new movments over the last few months and finding new PR’s by improved techniques with the coaches help. Sarah: I have been able to accomplish a lot of goals from faster times, muscle ups, and stronger lifts. I wouldn’t have been able to acomplish these without the coaches amazing help!
Has CrossFit affected your life outside the gym…. Coltt: I have made new friends that I like to hang out with in my spare time. I feel better on a day to day basis and always ready for what life throws at us next. Sarah: I now am healthier and in the best shape I have ever been in. I never thought I would be competting in another sport again, but now I have a new passion. Since starting we have met many great friends that are like family now.
Any advice for people getting started… Stick with it and keep an open mind! Some days are harder then others, but at the end of the day you are making yourself better by showing up and putting effort in. Listen to the coaches and enjoy the great family that CFCR has!
Some of your recent accomplishments… Coltt: I have set PR’s for squat, power cleans, and bench. My cardio has improved greatly. I have gotten a few ring muscle ups still working on the small techniques. Sarah: Increased my weights on different barbell movements and getting better on muscle up techniques.
What makes CFCR special to you? CFCR is special to us because of the people! It is more then just a gym, it’s a family! From the coaches to the members we couldn’t ask for a better gym family to be part of. Everyone pushes and encourages each other making working out even more enjoyable.
