Favorite wod… Aimee – Mary Bill-12 days of Christmas, anything with wallballs, snatches, OH squats, MUs, rope climbs. Still cannot remember the names of WODs
Least favorite wod… Aimee – Fran maybe, anything short, by the time it’s over, I’ve just gotten started. Bill – Anything with toes to bar and/or burpees
Favorite lift… Aimee – Power Clean Bill –Squat Snatch
Least favorite lift… Aimee – Shoulder to Overhead Bill – lifting my toes to the bar
Tell us bit about yourself (family, job, sports, military interest etc..)...We both grew up in Denver, Bill played baseball and Aimee was a Dancer. We met after college when we were both Physical Therapy Aides in the same clinic. We went to Physical Therapy school together and Bill convinced Aimee to marry him 14 years ago. And now 21 years later, we once again work together owning and managing the very clinics we met at. We have 2 hilarious, active young boys, Tommy 9 and Tyler 7. We moved to Castle Rock almost 10 years ago for a good environment for our boys and it turned out to be a great decision. When we are not at baseball games, soccer games, or basketball games, we are camping or skiing or Bill’s golfing while Aimee’s getting a pedicure or Crossfitting!
What were you doing before CrossFit..Aimee – After 4 years of post-baby “I’ll start working out next week”, I finally joined The Gym to do TRX. I think I stared in that Crossfit room for 2 years thinking, I want to do that, but was too scared out of my mind to ever go in. A good friend (thank you Jeff Campbell) one day said “hey do you guys want to try CrossFit on Christmas eve?” This was my chance! After our first workout, Bill said “I think I want to do this” and I thought, thank goodness because how would I ever go in there by myself. For the first 6 months, I would never go to a class without him. I was terrified.
Bill- I was doing P90X in the basement every morning (first time through), then I was so bored of it and Aimee could no longer kick my butt out of bed at 4AM and hitting the snooze button was winning most mornings. I never enjoyed fitness/exercise before Crossfit. It was something I did to stay in shape for life and sports.
What were your thoughts after your first CrossFit workout…Bill laid down in the grass outside while the workout was still going with a severe headache (thought something was going to pop) and was convinced he had a brain Aneurism. He went to get an MRI the following week…all clear…no aneurism…just out of shape. Aimee – After licking several wall balls on the decent, not being able to raise my arms to wash my hair, and considering a catheter to avoid sitting on the toilet, I thought, “I must do that again”
What were your goals when joining CrossFit...Bill wanted to get in better shape and actually enjoy doing it…and be able to do all those lifts and gymnastic movements
Aimee – To be able to do a pushup, a pullup, a box jump, a snatch with more weight than the bar, to get my toes to that stinking bar and to get that freaking 6# wall ball to the 10 foot target without licking it! But those that know me, know my biggest goal is to beat Bill in a workout!!
Have you achieved any of those goals...Bill – yes (I look forward all day to getting to the gym. What was once a burden is now become one of the best things in life) and many more… Aimee – Yes! And I have taken Bill down 6 times and counting!
Has CrossFit affected your life outside the gym...Aimee – Crossfit has completely changed my life. Before Crossfit, I was a complete workaholic. It was work every day, all the time. Work at work, work at home, work on the weekends, work on date night. When you work with your husband it is extremely difficult not to bring work home with you all the time (well for me, maybe not so much for Bill ;)) I was not happy if I wasn’t working, but honestly, I was working so much that I wasn’t really happy working either. Crossfit has changed all that. Crossfit have given me something outside of work that I love, in addition to helping me love work again. It has also helped me realize that whatever challenge comes my way, I will get through it and be stronger on the other side. Because let’s be serious, if you can get through 15.5, you can get through anything. I am forever indebted to the coaches and the members for helping to change my life and inspiring me every day. Inspiring me to be a better mom, wife, daughter, friend, to be better at life. It never gets old watching the genuine emotion that comes from someone’s first pullup or pushup or snatch or wall ball or first RX workout or first open, and I love watching how excited the coaches and the other members get for those people. It’s the most supportive group of people I have ever been a part of.
Bill – I am in the best shape of my life, I enjoy life more because of Crossfit, I love that Aimee and I have this together (I thought I was obsessed with Crossfit, I might be drinking the Kool-Aide but she is making the Kool-Aide). The new friends from such a great community is icing on the cake. Really can’t imagine my life without it.
Any advice for people getting started…It’s hard not to compete and compare yourself with others and honestly that’s half the fun, but as you’re chasing someone try to take a minute to remember where you came from and how far you’ve come.
Some of your recent accomplishments…Aimee – Being able to RX the Open and embracing the importance of rest day! Bill – Improving greatly on my previous Open performance thanks to following some awesome programming. Thank you to all the coaches! You are awesome! I feel like every day I am improving and loving the challenge. Thanks!
